As most of us are aware, John was the last of the Apostles to die, according to such reliable records as those of Clement, who was alive during and beyond John’s life and death, and Irenaeus, who we’ll talk about later. Both clarify that John lived into the reign of the Roman Emperor Trajan, who reigned from 98 through 117 AD. About 25 years after John’s death, a young philosopher named Justin began a spiritual journey of his own. One day, while taking his routine walk through a field overlooking the Mediterranean, he noticed he was being followed by an old man. Wanting his privacy for daily meditation, Justin became annoyed as the old man approached and then presented him with a series of troubling questions, challenging his philosophies.
