Sat, 29 August 2009 For your consideration...the following is an excerpt from a radio spot on KAPL radio, Jacksonville, Oregon, called " Akin For the Truth". To listen to the entire spot (a few minutes long), click the little microphone icon....Jack We were looking last time at a wonderful analogy to the resurrection, the metamorphosis of the Monarch Butterfly. We came up to the stage last time where the little two inch Monarch caterpillar is looking for a safe place to undergo its transformation, weaves a small silk lump, attaches its tail end to the lump, and then hangs upside down in the shape of a "J". About 12 hours pass, and it begins to move, forcing the skin to split open. It wriggles for up to five hours to shed its skin for the fifth and last time. The chrysalis, at this point, is jade green, with about 24 metallic appearing gold spots surrounding half of its upper abdomen. There are 12 metallic-like gold spots on the remaining parts of the chrysalis, all of which are necessary for the normal development of the butterfly. |
