We left off last time with the Coelacanth, dubbed before living Coelacanths were discovered in the 1930s as the dinofish, a cross between amphibians and fishes. Well, we now know, as you might expect, that the Coelacanth is 100% fish. The skeptic would explain this embarrassing upset as the result of an accidental discovery of a creature previously thought to have been extinct. After all, a cynic might observe, it’s easy to claim all kinds of “fishibian” traits when there is no living creature available to disprove your evolutionary conjectures. So much for the supposed missing link between fishes and amphibians. |
